GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY

aLUMNI FOR PALESTINE

AN ALUMNI COLLECTIVE IN SUPPORT OF THE CAUSE FOR JUSTICE IN PALESTINE.

THE GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY ALUMNI FOR PALESTINE ATTEST AND COMMIT TO THE FOLLOWING:

We the alumni of George Mason University stand in solidarity with Palestinian students of George Mason University, the Students for Justice in Palestine of George Mason University, the GMU Coalition for Palestine, and Palestinians globally.

We the alumni of George Mason University call upon the university to enact measures that affirms the safety and protection of Palestinian students and their allies given the ongoing normalization of intimidation and retaliation tactics, harassment, undue surveillance, and racial violence enabled on campus.

The Palestinian liberation movement is one that inherently combats and addresses racism, anti-blackness, ethnoreligious supremacy, and white supremacy globally. It is our commitment to provide our community with information that further sheds light on the aspects of this interconnectedness.

Lastly, we the alumni of George Mason University call upon the University, Faculty Senate, and Student Senate to support and endorse BDS. This includes divesting from major construction and weapon manufacturers Caterpillar Incorporated, General Electric Company, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman, all of which have provided Israel with machinery and technology to commit genocide, which in turn makes George Mason University a profiteer of genocide. Further, we request that George Mason University cease the renewal of its IT contracts with Amazon Web Services and CDW-G, both of which have provided technology and cloud services to Israeli weapon manufacturers and the Israeli Defense Forces.

RE: NOTICE OF SAFETY AND INCREASED POLICING

Since October 10th, 2023, the university has wrongfully centered the lives of zionists, using language that others and postures Palestinian students as second-class citizens of the university whose safety merely comes as an afterthought to the safety of everyone else's.

It is imperative, more now than ever, that we not only affirm the safety of Palestinian students, but that we challenge with great rigor the very notion of safety, who has claims to safety, and whose claims we must honor and center in the wake of genocide.

The university cannot guarantee the safety to and of Palestinian students while simultaneously abetting and justifying in their perpetrator's “right” to extirpate their very claim to existence and indigeneity in this world. Allowing zionists the space to enact violence under the guise of freedom of speech, safety, and antiquated notions of “free thinking” simply cannot coexist with the safety of Palestinians or students of color generally.

For this reason, we request that the university revisit and revise its Patriot Plan for Community Safety and Well-Being alongside and with the input of the GMU Coalition for Palestine.
